Medieval Mayhem

Pinocchio Outdoor Theatre

Pinocchio by Carlo Collodi, adapted by Oliver Gray. Carlo Collodi’s classic is a perennial favourite. It is the third most translated book in the world, having appeared in no fewer than 260 languages since it was published in 1883, and has never been out of print. Childless toymaker Geppetto buys a piece of wood to make a puppet – little realising the chaos he is about to unleash. The puppet yearns for adventure and runs away, but instead of excitement only finds glorious attractions containing hidden dangers. He returns home hoping to be showered with sympathy and learns his tribulations...

Richard III: Villain or Victim? Talk

Dr Georgiana Lorimer explores the contrast between Richard’s portrayal as a villain by Shakespeare and her recent study of the pivotal moments in his reign based on historical records. She brings to life the man and his times. These pivotal events: coronation, the death of his wife, and of his son, the Titulus regius which declared his nephews to be illegitimate, the betrayal by his friend Buckingham and the final battle at Bosworth, have been brought to life in poetry. £6 per person, Pre-booking Essential.

Pirate Day!
When 6th August, 10:30am - 3pm
There will be two sessions running: Morning Session 10:30am – 12:30pm & Afternoon Session 1:30pm – 3:30pm Ahoy shipmates, come an’ join us on the high seas of the 1620s lawn, where there’ll be a great gathering of fearsome pirates! Join in with the best dressed pirate competition, sea shanty singing, cutlass training, treasure hunt, join a captain’s crew and man the guns for a great pirate battle! Normal admission applies, plus £3 per child – there’s no need to pre-book, just turn up and pay on the day. Aaargh!!!

Colonel Robert Overton’s Regiment of Foote – Living History Weekend

Colonel Robert Overton’s Regiment of Foote are a 17th Century re-enactment group representing an Infantry Regiment within the Parliamentarian New Model Army at the time of the English Civil Wars. They will be garrisoned at the 1620s House where you can witness exciting military demonstrations (including musket fire!) and you can meet members of the company including the Commanding Officer, laundress, blacksmith and cooks to discover what life was like during the Civil Wars. You can even test your aim with the kiddie cannon! Travel back in time to a fascinating period of British history and bring the past to...
